I
am the elementary technology integration teacher for the Shaker
Regional School District. In 1981, I began my journey in
the education profession as a classroom teacher assistant in
second grade at
Belmont Elementary School. After four years, I became the library media
assistant at the new Belmont Elementary School and held that position
for two years. During that time, I decided to return to
college to earn my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Notre
Dame College. In 1991, I became a fourth grade teacher at Belmont
Elementary School.
While teaching fourth grade, I completed a Master's Degree in
Technology Education from Lesley University. After teaching
fourth grade for ten years,
I had the opportunity to become the district's first elementary
technology
integration teacher. Since 2001, I have been teaching technology skills
to students in grades K-4 at Belmont Elementary School and
grades K-5 at Canterbury Elementary School. My position allows me to
collaborate with all of the classroom teachers, as well as specialists,
to help them find ways to integrate technology into curriculum. I
meet with all classes throughout the year teaching technology skills
that are embedded into projects related to topics students are learning
about in their classrooms. In addition, I provide some technical
support for staff members as well as professional development
opportunities.
I am also the coordinator of the
community computer classes offered in our
district to the residents of Belmont and Canterbury. Those
classes began many years ago with a grant from the State of New
Hampshire that was awarded to the Shaker Regional School District.
